Quick answer · What is TMJ Botox?
TMJ Botox is an injection of botulinum toxin into the masseter, and sometimes temporalis, muscles to reduce excessive clenching and teeth grinding. Relaxing these muscles can ease jaw tightness, morning soreness and tension headaches linked to bruxism. A session takes 15–20 minutes with no downtime. Relief usually begins in 3–7 days, is fullest at about two weeks and typically lasts 3–6 months.

How it works
Turning down the force of clenching
Chronic clenching and grinding overload the jaw muscles and the temporomandibular joint. Botulinum toxin reduces the strength of these contractions, so the muscles relax while normal chewing and speech continue. It treats the muscle component of jaw pain, not structural joint damage, and may also slim the lower face slightly.
-
Jaw evaluation
Your doctor asks about clenching, grinding and pain, feels the muscles while you bite, and checks whether a dental or joint assessment is needed.
-
Targeted injections
Botulinum toxin is injected at several points in the masseter, and the temporalis if needed, on each side.
-
Relief builds
Tension usually eases over the first one to two weeks, and your doctor reviews how symptoms have changed.

FAQ
TMJ Botox questions we hear every day
Does TMJ Botox hurt?
Most patients feel a few brief pinches along the jaw. The masseter is easy to locate, so the session is quick.
Will it stop my jaw pain completely?
It often reduces muscle-related pain and clenching, but it is not a cure, and results vary. A night guard or dental care may still be recommended.
Will chewing feel different?
Some patients notice tough foods feel harder to chew for a couple of weeks while the muscles adjust. Normal eating and speaking continue.
When will I feel a difference?
Relief usually starts within 3–7 days and is fullest at about two weeks. Results typically last three to six months.
Will my face look slimmer?
Possibly. Relaxing the masseter can soften a square jaw over a few months, which is the same principle as jaw slimming Botox.
How much does TMJ Botox cost in Myeongdong?
Price for TMJ Botox depends on the muscles treated and the dose. The same price list applies to every nationality and is given to you in writing before treatment. See our filler and botox price list.
