How it works
Switching down the signal to sweat glands
Sweat glands are activated by nerve signals using the chemical messenger acetylcholine. Botulinum toxin placed in the skin temporarily blocks this message, so the glands produce much less sweat. The glands are not removed, so normal sweating elsewhere continues and the effect gradually wears off.

Underarm injections are usually well tolerated, with many small pinches. Palms and soles are more sensitive, so numbing cream, cooling or vibration is used to keep you comfortable.
